MHMP

MHMP (Mental Health Media Partnership) has been working

with the entertainment industry for the past ten years to promote

accuracy and understanding of mental health issues.  We are

proud to be affiliated with the annual Voice Awards, sponsored

by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Adminstration

(SAMHSA) in partnership with the Writers Guild of America

West and several other national organizations.  The

Voice Awards recognize the entertainment industry for their

 contribution to mental health understanding.

MHMP has been a technical advisor to dozens of television programs and films, offering consultation about mental health issues and linking producers and writers to experts across the country at no cost.  We have partnered with the Writers Guild of America West to host educational events; co-hosted screenings of mental health-related productions with several film companies, including Focus Features and Samuel Goldwyn Films; and advised networks about how to approach mental health issues.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

A Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude graduate of Ohio State University, Barbara Demming Lurie continued her graduate work in clinical psychology at the University of Wisconsin.  She spent the next two decades heading a bureau for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health on weekdays and weekends penning a restaurant review column for a daily newspaper.  After a stint as Director of Programs and Research for the Entertainment Industries Council, she was asked to head the Mental Health Media Partnership, a nonprofit organization initially sponsored by USC and the University of Pennsylvania to work with the entertainment community.
